The Hope of Design

  • Trends or Trendy

Our customers have said, “We want to look contemporary, but not trendy.” “We don’t’ want our spaces to go out of style before we can afford to update them.” We don’t want to give the impression of being trendy.” (Meaning temporary, short-sited, fashion focused)

We hope in 2012 that the customers will trust that their designers won’t promote superficial or shallow ideas just to be trendy. For your “Trust your Designer” T-Shirt, please contact r.o.i. Design for sizes and prices.

  • The nature of Forecasts

By forecasting we acknowledge things are changing, we are becoming, that we embrace something new or that we want things to change for the best. We know that when we feel like we have some sort of control, we are the happiest. When we own a forecast, it is as if we make the future. r.o.i. Design works diligently to help you make your space support the values of its users. Whether it is the home owner, the employee-office dweller, the customer-shopper, the resident vacationer or infrequent guest, we care about their experience.

Trends 2012

Posted by Mary on January 10, 2012

Today, everyone is a forecaster. With information and images at our fingertips, it appears anyone can make a case that a personal preference could be “trend” or will soon be.

So after scouring the internet we offer these observations for our West Michigan customer base on what could be trends for 2012

 1. Lipstick colors continue to be important accent colors; in 2011 it was versions of Pink, http://tinyurl.com/87shtoj  in 2012 it will be versions of Orange. Pantone color of the year is Tangerine Tango.  http://tinyurl.com/77z5n5f

2. Neutral colors from nature are the more acceptable neutrals; oatmeal, dirt, sand, even wind and sun. Insincere white, taupe and gray have a lot to prove right now.

3. Cultural trends in colors and choices center on stability and preservation. Benjamin Moore Paints has an extensive theory that supports this notion.

4. Cultural trends in graphics and logos are promoting gray or multiple colors which both suggest inclusion. Companies need every  buyer profile and supporter. We don’t want to leave out anyone who might relate to a brand or purchase  a product

 5. Architecture and planning continue to be influenced by technology, globalization and our response to it.

 6. Interior design trends include:

  •          Aging in Place (impacting residential and work design)
  •          Store within Stores (influencing retail design)
  •          Work as Life (commercial and workplace design)
  •          3rd Place (the sacredness of away places)

Please do your own research, but here are a few sites of interest that talk about trends.
